Fall Makeup Trends

Lately I’ve been noticing and loving the new fall makeup trends.

At times I don’t think I can pull off some of these looks, and then I realize you just have to rock it and your confidence will make people stop and look!

The first thing I’ve been noticing is the lip color.
I am in love with the dark wine color lips. Everyone I see them on I think it looks stunning.

The second thing has been the darker eye color.
Usually during this change of season you see a warmer color come into play. This year it seems like it’s going really warm. I also think there is a fine line between making it look good and flawless and making it look trampy.

There are tons of lipsticks out there, but here are a few that I think would work perfectly to get this look.

Eyes are a little harder. Usually when you have a dark lip you can pull off a more neutral eye, but you can also make a dramatic look even more beautiful. Here are a few ideas.

Here's an amazing video that Jaclyn Hill has on a fall look. Check it out! She knows what shes talking about!

Honey Mustard Chicken

I ran across this recipe and kind of fell in love with it. I’ve make it into my own changing a few things everytime I make it. It’s a simple, fast, and delicious meal! Hope you enjoy!

What you’ll need:

4 Chicken Breasts
6 Cooked bacon, harshly chopped (I use maple smoked bacon, gives it good flavor)
½ - 1 cup chopped fresh mushrooms
Colby Jack shredded cheese
Lawyr’s Season Salt

I make my own honey mustard sauce for this, but you can also use a pre-bought one if you’d like

Honey Mustard
¼ cup regular yellow mustard
1/3 cup Honey
2 Tbsp. mayo
2-4 tsp. dried onion flakes

Mix all together and let sit for a while to let the flavors marry.

Steps:
Pound the chicken to make tender and season with lawyr’s salt. Let it rest while you cook the bacon. You want it to be crispy, but not to crispy. Save the grease.

Preheat the oven to 350. In the bacon grease, brown the chicken. About 4 minutes on each side.
Line a glass container with tinfoil (less clean up!).

Place the chicken in the container. Layer the Honey mustard, mushrooms, and bacon on top of the chicken. Top with all the cheese your heart desires (you can never have enough cheese, is my theory) if you have left over honey mustard go ahead and drizzle it on the top of the cheese.

Cook for 25-30 minutes at 350.

Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Usually when I make this I serve it with rice and a salad.
Hope you Enjoy!

Fried Okra

Fried okra is a southern dish that has made its way into my heart since I was younger. Every time we went on trip to the southern states it was a must. I remember the first time I ever had it, and from then on it was my goal to find a good recipe and make it at least once a summer.

Here is the recent recipe I tried.

First a few things you need to know about okra. You want fresh, ripe okra. That being said here’s how to tell, when you’re cutting it if it cuts easily and doesn’t make a crunching sound, like celery does, that means it’s fresh and not woody. It gets kind of slimy too, just for warning you.
Once you slice them, dust with 2 tablespoons of flour, dip into buttermilk, then into flour mixture.

What you’ll need:
Vegetable oil
½ cup cornbread muffin mix
1 cup flour (plus the 2 Tbsps)
1 tsp salt
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp garlic powder
¾ tsp paprika
½ tsp cayenne
¼ tsp black pepper
1 lb okra (ends removed and sliced)
1 cup buttermilk
1 ½ tsp hot sauce (any kind)

Directions:
In a sauce pan or heavy bottom  pan, heat 4-5 inches of oil and heat up to 350°F. Mix together Flour, cornbread mix, and all the seasonings. Sprinkle the dusted okra with salt and pepper. Mix the hot sauce and buttermilk together in separate bowl.

Dip okra into buttermilk mixture then into the flour-cornmeal mixture. Shake off excess flour then add to hot oil, (be careful not to burn yourself). Fry in batches until golden, time will vary. Remove from oil and place on paper towel to drain. Dust with salt immediately after removing. Serve with favorite dipping sauce.

Enjoy!

If you have a favorite Okra recipe, please share it I'd love to try different one!

Favorite lotions and body butters

A while ago I got on this kick of having lotion around 24/7.  This isn’t a bad thing, until you notice how quick you go through it. Which is also a good thing for me, not my pocketbook. I get bored of the same scent all the time. It’s like listening to the same song on the radio, after you’ve fallen in love with it then it becomes crazy popular and its way over played (we all know what that’s like).

With the change in seasons upon us I seem to be reaching for more and more moisturizers. Right now however I’m stuck with between 3 different kinds.

The Body Shop body butters are amazeballs. You think I’m kidding, I’m not. They’re rich and moisturizing, melting into your skin leaving it soft and smooth. Not to mention they have tons of different scents. My two all-time favorites are Coconut and Olive oil.

Some cool Facts:
“Our Community Fair Trade virgin organic coconut oil comes from coconuts that are organically grown in Samoa. The nuts are gathered, selected and cracked by hand, and the flesh is cold-pressed. Our trade with Women in Business Development Inc supports several community projects, such as teaching local farmers new skills. To find out more, visit our Community Fair Trade section.”
“Our Community Fair Trade shea butter comes from Ghana. Local women hand-harvest shea nuts, dry them in the sun and crack them to extract the kernels. These are roasted and ground into a paste to make the butter. Our trade with the Tungteiya Women’s Shea Butter Association has helped to fund three medical centers and 10 nursery schools. To find out more, visit our Community Fair Trade section.”

The other lotion I’ve been loving lately is the Bath and Body works Cashmere Glow.  I use this when I get out of the shower. It leaves a nice soft scent nothing over powering. It smells of vanilla, peach, and cashmere musk. It leaves you really moisturized and feeling fresh and clean.

I haven’t noticed it leaning a greasy or oily feeling, and it’s not like you have to wait for your skin to soak it up before you put clothes on. I hate that feeling!

Both stores are having really good sales right now so I suggest you check them out!
